Sopwith Triplane “Black Maria” as it appeared in July 1917. This fighter was flown by British Ace Raymond Collishaw. Note the twin Vickers guns; this was one of six experimental Triplanes built by Clayton & Shuttleworth. Although the increased firepower was welcome, the weight and recoil carried a noticeable performance penalty.
